Nicely Secures Taiwan Utility Model Patent for Suspended Rewinding System — Optical Film & Battery Film Applications
Customer Care 2026-10-16
Nicely continues to develop solutions based on actual needs from slitting and converting operations, improving machine operation and space utilization for long-term production through mechanical design, rewinding engineering, and automation integration.
In 2026, Nicely secured Taiwan Utility Model Patent M686519, “Slitting Equipment and Its Suspended Rewinding Device.”
The core of this patent is not simply a change in the position of the rewinding unit. It rethinks the space requirements involved in winding, moving, and unloading finished rolls.
Limitations of Conventional Swing-Arm Rewind
Swing-arm rewind systems require outward clearance during roll unloading. As finished-roll diameters increase, it is common in optical film, battery separator film, and adhesive-coated film converting, this movement creates recurring constraints in production layout and handling.
The main limitations are:
- Floor space consumed by arm travel and operator access
- Surface-contact risk during finished-roll transfer
- Limited compatibility with AGV and automated handling systems
Nicely therefore asked a practical design question: how can a finished roll leave the machine more directly, with less surface contact and without requiring outward arm travel?
Nicely’s Patented Suspended Rewinding System
The patented suspended rewinding device consists mainly of a drive unit, a movable carriage unit, and at least one suspended rewinding unit.
The carriage moves forward and backward relative to the machine, while the suspended rewinding unit is mounted below it and can be adjusted for different rewind positions and slitting requirements.
By mounting the rewind units beneath a movable carriage, the system eliminates the need for outward arm travel. This reduces unloading-space requirements and supports the careful handling needed for optical films, adhesive-coated optical films, battery separator films, polarizer films, and other pressure-sensitive materials.
Once rewinding is complete, an AGV or automated handling mechanism can support the finished roll at both core ends, enabling vertical unloading without direct contact with the roll surface.
| Key design benefit |
